Floor layout

The preset lays the design flat on the floor, seen from above, with the floor orientation selected and a width of 128 blocks. That matches the size of one Minecraft map, which covers 128 by 128 blocks.

A larger image needs several maps side by side, so plan the grid before you make them.

Colours on the map

Minecraft maps use their own colour set. PackPixel chooses blocks by the colours of their textures, so the map can look slightly different from the plan.

Floyd–Steinberg dithering is selected by default, which helps gradients look smooth.

Plan the build

Use the materials list to count the blocks before you start, and check the build area, because a floor design covers a large flat space.

Frequently asked questions

How big is one map?

One Minecraft map covers 128 by 128 blocks. For a larger image, use several maps and set the width and height to match your grid.

Why does the map look different from the plan?

Minecraft maps use their own colour set, while PackPixel uses the colours of the block textures. Compare the plan with the finished map after you build it.

Can I use the blocks of my modpack for map art?

Yes. Choose the launcher folder and the instance, and the palette will include its blocks, filtered as you choose.

Should I use the wall or the floor?

Floor is the default for map art, because the design is seen from above. Wall is for a mural seen from the front.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no payment.
